What is the difference between Plastic Surgery, Cosmetic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery?

Plastic surgery is the term used for surgical procedures which restore, reconstruct and improve parts of the face or body for cosmetic and/or therapeutic purpose.

Plastic surgery may be further sub-divided into cosmetic surgery and reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery is used to enhance or rejuvenate specific parts of the body for solely aesthetic reasons, while reconstructive surgery aims to restore physical form and function.

What should I bring with me when I come for my first appointment?

Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment and bring the following:

  • Private health membership card
  • Medicare Card
  • Referral Letter (if required)
  • Reports, X-Rays, MRI's, CT scans etc. and any other relevant information
  • List of medications (if any)

Do I need a referral?

A referral is required if you wish to claim a rebate from Medicare for your consultation or surgery. It is not necessary to have a referral for cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery procedures do not attract a Medicare rebate.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can make an appointment by calling 1300 259 297 during office hours (9am to 5pm) or email us at info@renaissant.com.au. It is important that you let us know the reason for your appointment at the time of booking so we can allocate the appropriate amount of time for your consultation.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Simply call 1300 259 297 during business hours to advise us of a cancellation. Please check with our team in relation to our cancellation policy as deposits and cancellation notice are required. We'd appreciate as much notice as possible so we can ensure all patients can be seen in a timely manner.

Where are you located?

Our purpose-build state-of-the-art clinic and day hospital is conveniently located at 45 Wellington Road, East Brisbane - directly behind the Wooloongabba Dan Murphy's

Is parking available?

We have secure parking available underneath the complex we are in at 45 Wellington Road, East Brisbane. You will see a driveway on your right with a boom gate, take a ticket and proceed to B1 for parking. There is a lift to bring you up to ground floor where we are located. The first hour of parking is free, and then $7 between 1-2 hours, and increasing on an hourly basis from there.

Will my appointment be covered by health insurance/Medicare?

If you are booked in for medical reasons and have a valid referral, the consultation fee will be partially covered by Medicare, but not by your private health fund. However, if the consultation is for cosmetic reasons, it will not be covered by either.

As Health Fund rebates for surgery and treatments can vary we recommend that you check with your Health Fund to understand what your policy covers, and if you can expect any out of pocket costs. If you require pathology or radiology tests as part of your treatment you may receive a separate bill from these specialists. (This can happen after the consultation once the patient has been given the info from Scott)

What will my procedure cost?

We place you and your goals at the centre of everything we do, celebrating and respecting your individuality. We don't provide recommendations or quotations without consulting with you in person to understand your needs and assess the most appropriate treatment plan.

Are my medical records confidential?

We have the utmost respect for your privacy and our staff members are bound by strict confidentiality requirements as a condition of their employment. Your clinical records, photos or information will not be released without your signed consent.

Where will I have my surgery?

All therapeutic and minor cosmetic procedures are performed in our fully licensed day hospital facility at East Brisbane. Larger procedures are performed in Brisbane's Mater Private Hospital.

Breast augmentation FAQs

Am I a suitable candidate for breast augmentation?

A breast augmentation is a potentially suitable surgical procedure for client’s wishing to increase breast size, restore breast volume and/or enhance breast shape.

Are all breast augmentation procedures the same?

No, there are different approaches to breast augmentation, and this will be dependent on your surgeon’s preferences and experience. It is important that you feel well informed, play an active role in the decision-making process and are comfortable with the plan for your breast implant surgery.

What type of breast implants do you use?

Dr Scott Ingram chooses to use Motiva breast implants. These superior and innovative medical devices are associated with enhanced patient safety and performance and with a wide range of implant sizes and projections available, as well as options for different silicone gel types, your breast augmentation can be personalised to your preferences and desired aesthetic outcome.

What can I expect from my recovery following my breast augmentation?

Some generalised pain and/or discomfort is expected however this is typically well managed with the oral pain relief provided. Resting, positioning yourself upright and wearing your recommended support garment will also improve your comfort. Whilst gentle mobility, stretching and light daily activities are generally suitable and safe, we do ask that you avoid heaving lifting, over exertion and strenuous activity for six weeks following your breast augmentation. The suggested time off work will be dependent on your position and associated duties, however as a general guide most people have returned to work within two weeks.

Will I have visible scarring?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to perform breast implant surgery without placing a scar on your chest. However, with careful surgical planning, it is our aim that following the initial implant settling period this short scar will be well hidden in the new fold underneath your breasts.  Our clinical team will recommend effective scar management techniques to facilitate optimal outcomes post-operatively and will continue to support you throughout this process.

Will I be expected to attend post-operative appointments?

Absolutely! Following your breast augmentation, our clinical team will typically review your progress at two weeks, six weeks, three months, six months, twelve months and then on an ongoing annual basis. We also offer a unique after-hours nursing telephone service to ensure our expert care and attention to detail continues throughout your post-operative journey with Renaissant Aesthetic Health.
