Abdominoplasty

Our highly experienced plastic surgeons can help you achieve a smaller, firmer and flatter stomach. Over a series of consultations we will understand your aesthetic health goals and carefully determine the best approach to tighten weakened abdominal muscles, remove the sagging skin or excess fat that can be caused by weight fluctuations and pregnancy.

We'll craft your journey to improved aesthetic health

Your surgeon will make a continuous incision from hipbone to hipbone, just above the pubic area and the navel is freed from surrounding tissue. The skin will then be separated from the abdominal wall up to your ribs, to reveal your abdomen muscles. These are then tightened by pulling them closer together and stitching them into a new position. Once the excess skin is removed, the skin flap is then stretched down to join the wound together and a new navel is created.

In some cases, it is also possible to have a Mini-Abdominoplasty. In this procedure, the incision is much shorter and the navel may not need to be moved, as the skin is separated only between the incision line and the navel. This skin is stretched down, the excess skin is removed and then stitched back into place.

Your surgery will be performed under general anaesthetic, with the length of procedure and stay in hospital dependent on the type of surgery. During your time in hospital you will be closely monitored by an experienced medical team who help manage pain and discomfort and ensure your wounds are healing appropriately. You may stand as upright as you feel comfortable following surgery. You will also be seen by a physiotherapist who will guide you through safe techniques for ambulating whilst supporting your surgical incision.

On discharge, you will be provided with a comprehensive plan to manage the wounds and associated pain. Some redness, swelling and bruising around the wound is normal and will eventually settle. Driving is to be avoided for the first two weeks after surgery, with heavy lifting, strenuous exercise and unnecessary strain on your wound to be avoided for six weeks.

Abdominoplasty procedure is suitable for:

  • Saggy skin or excess fat in the stomach area
  • Weight change
  • Rectus Divarication
